When I failed it was personally painful and there was no greater urgency than course correction. On those occasions I was grateful for your forbearance and always mindful that your patience and attention didn't come with a lifetime warranty.
I was not alone here, of course. I am simply the most conspicuous part of a large, thoroughly dedicated and professional staff that extends from just behind these cameras, across this country and around the world, in too many instances, in places of grave danger and personal hardship. They're family to me.
What have I learned here? More than we have time to recount this evening but the enduring lessons through the decades are these: it's not the questions that get us in trouble. It's the answers. And, just as important, no one person has all the answers. Just ask a member of the generation I came to know well, the men and women who came of age in the Great Depression, who at great personal sacrifice saved the world in World War II and returned home to dedicate their lives to improving the nation they had already served so nobly.
They weren't perfect. No generation is. But this one left a large and vital legacy of common effort to find common ground here and abroad on which to solve our most vexing problems. They did not give up their personal beliefs and greatest passions but they never stopped learning from each other. And, most of all, they did not give up on the idea we're all in this together.
We still are and it is in that spirit that I say thanks for all I have learned from you. It's been my richest reward.
That's "Nightly News" for this Wednesday night. I'm Tom Brokaw. It included 505 Republican leaners. Three of the people will not or can not run Colin Powell and Jeb Bush will probably not run and Arnold Schwarzenegger can not run since he was not born in the US. This poll left out George Allan. I am glade they did put Rice in there.

Democrats:
Hillary Clinton 25
John Kerry 15
John Edwards 7
Bill Clinton 3
Barack Obama 3
Al Gore 2

This poll was also done Nov. 7-10 2004. It included 465 Democrats or leaners. I do not know why they included Bill Clinton since he can not run anymore. Barack Obama may run in 2012 but not in 2008. Al Gore will never run for elected office again. John kerry does not have a chance. Billary (Bill and Hillary)will win the hearts of the Democrats and win the nomination.

Bush Job Approval

Gallup,Rasmussen, Annenberg, and Zogby have how relased job approval polls for the President.

Gallup: 53%
Rasmussen (daily): 54%
Annenberg: 53%
Zogby: 48%

So the only poll with the President's approval below 50% is Zogby. Senator Frist did not say how he was going to stop the Demorcats. One opition is lower the number of Sentors needed to break the filibuster. Another opition is the the filibustering of presidentail nominees unconstitutional, but Republicans are unwilling to do this because if they are ever back in the minority it could back to hurt them. The opition I like best, is the force the Demorcats to actully have to make a filibuster. That is where one Senator goes and talks about anything for as long as he or she wants. Make them do it the old way.

Thank Your FCC and PTC

Tonight ABC is planning on airing the movie "Saving Private Ryan," however local stations are now worried that the FCC, or in my opion the Federal Communist Commission, will find them. ABC affiliates in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia are the ones refusing to air the movie. These in include the Sinclair Broadcasting Corp. ABC affiliates. This of course has been brought about things to Janite Jackson. The Parents Televison Council has said that they would have no problem if this move aired. Several affiliates have tried to get the FCC to tell them if they would be fined if they aired this, however the FCC trying to avoid censorship will not rule until after they have a complante and the movie is aired. The FCC trying to avoide censorship, never thought I would hear that line again. There are really two issues here. The first does the FCC and any other goverment agancy have the right to fine the networks. I say no. I belive in the slogon "Feedom, Democracy, and Capitalism." Cenorship is not capitalism it is communism. The FCC and other agancies should never issue fines for content on TV. The other issue is local affilites pre-empting network coverage. They are first and formost network affilites they should like it. All networks have local time built in, expect of breaking news well in some cases (read below). Government do your job to defend us from murders, terrorist, and other horriable crimanls.

CBS Apologizes for Special Report on Arafat Death

Today CBS official apologized for "An overly aggressive CBS News producer jumped the gun" and went ahead with the special report last night. The report was original planned to be offered to local stations in replace of local news. The report instead forced fans of the show "CSI: NEW YORK" to miss the finale few minutes of the show. Before I begin my lecture I would like to say that Arafat was and always will be a terrorist. However, he was a major player on the world stage and his death should result in CBS interrupting CSI or any other shows that would have been on. Secondly CBS should never give local affiliates the option to take local news over such an important death. I know my local CBS station would never have shown this report as local news in Southwest Virginia is much more important than national events. I do not know if my local NBC and ABC stations took the report, as again local news is much more important than this. These are the same stations that takes local news over a former president's funeral. However, I do not know if NBC and ABC did break into there regular lineups. I know that FOX did and of course the local station did not take choosing Seinfeld. The local stations for Southwest Virginia are NBC (WCYB), CBS (WJHL) the main one, ABC (WKPT), and FOX (WEMT).

Yasser Arafat is Dead

1929-2004

Finialy after days of waiting, one of the greatest mass murders in history has died. Yasser Arafat died tonight in a Paris France hospital. This can only mean good news for the peace process. The big worry now is who takes his place, they could be better or worse. Lets just hope it is better.

More: Chirac "It is with emotion that I have just learnt of the death of President Yasser Arafat, the first elected president of the Palestinian Authority," Chirac said in a written statement on Thursday. "I offer my very sincere condolences to his family and to people close to him." Chirac went on to say that the international community to perseve the peace plan. Peace is a very good possiablely now that Arafat is gone. But we will have to give people like Chirac and John Kerry time to grave for the dead terroist that they loved so much.

But: Prime Minister John Howrd said that, "Arafat will be remembered as a leader who failed to grasp an opportunity for peace in the Middle East."

President Bush issued this statment: "The death of Yasser Arafat is a significant moment in Palestinian history. We express our condolences to the Palestinian people. For the Palestinian people, we hope that the future will bring peace and the fulfillment of their aspirations for an independent, democratic Palestine that is at peace with its neighbors. During the period of transition that is ahead, we urge all in the region and throughout the world to join in helping make progress toward these goals and toward the ultimate goal of peace."

CNN: Mahmoud Abbas has been named as Arafat's replacment as PLO chairman. Parliament Speaker Rawhi Fattuh has been sworn in as the new Plaestinian President. However, if this judge keeps this thing going he need to free these jurors.

Flash

President Bush has now chosen White House counsel Alberto Gonzales as the next Attorney General. According to the so called court the party is racit. The arctile that I read did not say why they are accused of being racit. This is the first time that a so-called democratic regime outlawed the country's largest political party in the western world. I think I speak for all freedom loving people when I say that this ruling needs to be overturned fast. A political party should never be defented by judges, they should be defented by the people. A juror has done some research on his or her own. The defense attornery may have asked for a mistrial. However, the judge may replace the juror. I don't know about anyone else but I want this thing to be over. It is costing the state of California millions of dollars. Beyond wasting five months of this jury's life this judge is holding them against there will, which I thought was illegal. It is time for this thing to come to and end, and fast.

Flash: Juror number 7 has been removed and replaced with with another whose nick name appears to be Pinke, according to the reporters that have nothing to do. Reuters sent out both reports. However, all of the reports that I have seen have Arafat getting worse insented of better. No matter what is happens to Arafat it apperars that he will never control the Palestinian people again. At the top of the 11 o'clock hour Fox is saying that Arafat only has a few more hours to live. Also Fox said that he is on life support and that a decision is being made to take him off of life support right now.

Update: The Palestinian foreign minister has just held a press confress. The doctors have ruled out cancer, poison, and other medical problems, however the cause of Arafat's illness is unknown. The minister also informed the press that Arafat would not be taken off of life support

Updates will be provided when they come in.

Condi in 08

This was just talked about on Fox News. Even though this blog was created to cover Virginia I will also provide updates on national and international politics.

I am a Republican that surpported President Bush and Kevin Triplett in this past election. I support Jerry Kilgore for governor and Steve Baril for attorney general. I have not had time to make up my mind for lieutenant governor.

Again welcome to Politics in Virginia.
